How to make a CRA payment

Online Banking

Taxes can be paid using the “pay a bill” feature in your online banking.

Smythe PC recommends setting up a new CRA payee to ensure the cash goes in the right bucket at CRA.

Using an old CRA payee may result in CRA misapplying the payment.

To add a new payee:

  • In the add new payee section, search “CRA”.

  • The search will return a few options

    • For BEFORE ASSESSMENT (current year) payments, select an option most similar to: "CRA (revenue) – 20XX tax return"

    • For ASSESSED (prior year) payments, select an option most similar to "CRA (revenue) – tax amount owing"

    • For a TAX INSTALLMENT select an option most similar to “CRA (revenue) – tax instalment”

    • When prompted, the account number is your SIN

Other ways

CRA has other payment options too if the option above does not work for you. For a comprehensive guide, click the button to go to the CRA website, and follow the instructions.
